Synopsis:

We’re going to tell our story and then it will all stop and Mummy will be safe. You want Mummy to be safe, don’t you?

Three minutes. That’s all it takes for Meredith’s entire world to fall apart when she watches the videotape of her four-year-old self with Becca, the mother she’s never known.

Meredith can’t believe what her eyes have seen. Yet what if her memory has locked away the painful reality of her childhood? Can there be any truth in the strange and dangerous story her mother forced her to tell on camera?

The search for answers leads Meredith to Darkwater Pool, the scene of the murder of a young woman, Cara, over 30 years ago. What could possibly be the link between her mother and the victim?

To find the truth Meredith must search through a past that is not her own. The problem is, she’s not the only one looking…

A dark, compulsive psychological thriller that will keep you up all night. Perfect for fans of Paula Hawkins and Louise Jensen.

Review:

Secrets, lies, betrayal, jealousy, deception, and everything in between. This gripping book jumps right into the perplexing puzzle, giving the reader the opportunity to gather the shattered pieces of the mystery while exploring the blurred lines between sense and insanity, right and wrong, love and hate, and many disconcerting contradictions.

I simply loved this story. The characters have some interesting layers to their quite flawed personalities and it was very entertaining to get to know them and understand the reasons behind their, at times, disturbing actions. The secrets kept unfolding till the very end, some twists I have seen coming, some were a pleasant surprise. I also enjoyed the plot which has several dimensions to it and as it wraps up, it makes sure to tie up all the loose ends, thus making the whole experience, not only satisfying but also very much enjoyable.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for an enthralling story with fascinating characters and I personally will be looking forward to reading more of this author’s work!

I would like to thank Bookouture, NetGalley, and Jess Ryder for sending me an advanced copy of this book.
