Synopsis: Lori Golden’s family have had more than their fair share of troubles. But through it all, Lori and her sister, Jessie, have always supported each other. Then Jessie is killed. And Lori’s world turns upside down.
Devastated, Lori struggles to cope with her loss, and to learn to live in a world without her bright, bubbly sister by her side. Around her, her already fractured family start to fall apart. And, as Lori and her mother try to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives, secrets long thought buried are coming painfully to light.
Faced with the unthinkable, Lori is forced to ask herself how well she really knows those who are left behind…
“Her world has become surreal at best, a nightmare at worst.”
This book is a knotty amalgamation of grief, pain, speculations, suspicions, mistrust, secrets, malicious notes, broken relationships, people swiftly jumping to conclusions and to top it all of, there is a twist that will keep you up at night, thinking just how vile some people could be and how much do you really know about the people you think you know?
“Once you catch someone in a lie, it’s hard to know what else they might be lying about.”
As the story unfolds, so do the secrets of the past. Can anyone in this story be trusted? As far as this story’s concerned, everyone’s a suspect till proven innocent.
“No smoke without fire, as the saying goes.”
I quite enjoyed stepping into Lori’s mind, taking my time to decipher her speculations as we both try to get to the bottom of the mystery. This is definitely a page turner that will keep you coming back for more, that if you actually succeed to put it down. I personally couldn’t, thus finishing it all in one go; no regrets!
This book also managed to break my heart more than once and even though I kind of knew who did it, I still couldn’t possibly imagine the motive behind that kind of viciousness. The revelation was rather shocking to say the least.
“Her intuition’s at war with logic, but wins the battle.”
The story is beautifully written and the characters are all quite fascinating. Also, in almost every chapter there is a revelation of some sort, a missing piece of the masterpiece that is this book. I will recommend it to everyone looking for a good story with a bloody twist and I will definitely be looking forward to reading more of this author’s work.
I would like to thank NetGalley, the publishers, and the author for providing me with an ARC Copy of this amazing book!
